Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book?
All events can be booked through our booking facility. You will find ‘Upcoming Tours’ and ‘Trips and Tours’ sections. You can check availability and book any scheduled upcoming tour via the booking platform. Should you require a specific date and time, you can browse our ‘Trips and Tours’ Section and book in privately. Some private trip and tours run on a minimum number basis, details of which can be found on each event description. Private tours may require confirmation from NWAT.
What is a Scheduled Tour and How do I find them?
Scheduled Tours our prearranged trips and tours that can be views in ‘upcoming’ section. Tickets are sold on a first come first served basis. To find Scheduled Tours go to our Upcoming Tours page or search the calendar on the tour you wish to book. Scheduled Tours are regularly available and usually contain our most popular adventures alongside some of our unique events.
What Experience do I need?
At Northwest Adventure Tours we take great joy in getting people involved in new experiences. With this is mind our tours are mainly aimed to be enjoyed by all levels of experience.
Stand-Up Paddle Tours – You do not require any previous experience. The SUP boards we use are designed for beginners and each client is fitted with a board safety leash and buoyancy aid.
Hiking Tours – No experience is necessary for our hiking tours although for some of the routes a basic level of personal fitness may be required. Each individual hiking tour has information on this.
Biking Tours – The ability to ride a bike is all you need for this! A basic understanding of the rules of Irish roads is also advisable.
What do I need to bring?
SUP – For Stand-up Paddle tours we provide wetsuits although many people prefer to go in shorts and t-shirts. Either way a change of clothes and towels are advisable.
Hiking – For hiking tours you do not need any specialist equipment apart from basic hiking clothing i.e., hiking boots, rain jacket/leggings, warm layers etc. Hiking tour descriptions carry additional advice if needed.
Biking – We supply bike and helmet leaving you with only personal clothing to bring.
Do our tours carry age limits?
Please check the description of the tour you are inquiring into as our tours can vary from adult only to children only to family fun. As a general rule, unless otherwise stated our age limits on Scheduled Tours are as follows.
Hiking – Our Scheduled Tours are from 12 years + unless otherwise stated on tour booking
SUP – Our Scheduled Tours are from 12 years + unless otherwise stated on tour booking
Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult on all tours except kid’s adventure camps.
Emergencies
In the unlikely event of any emergency arising during your tour all our guides are fully trained in first aid and first response techniques specific to their area of expertise.
Are tours self-guided?
None of our tours apart from specific bike hire tours are self-guided. All tours are led by qualified guides ratioed out to suit the group size ensuring you will never be alone.
Can I bring dogs/pets on tours?
Sadly, as much as we love our animals here at NWAT, we cannot for various reasons allow any animals on our tours with the exception of guide dogs for certain tours.
Can I be refunded?
Each tour has refund conditions and a cancellation policy that can be found on the tour page you are booking. Should you fall outside these conditions please contact us.
Are tours insured?
All tours are fully insured and lead by qualified guides.
I have underlaying medical conditions, can I attend your tours?
Many of us have some medical conditions at some point in our lives, many of us have conditions for life but we don’t let that get in the way of life. Most conditions we see do not stop people attending our tours providing you make us aware of your condition on booking to ensure our guides are aware in the event of an emergency.
What area do we cover?
Sligo is our home and therefore the north west counties of Sligo, Donegal, Mayo and Leitrim are our main area of operation however we can and do provide tours throughout Ireland on request.
Where are we based?
We are a dynamic outdoor business, and you can find us anywhere, but we are honoured to call the Riverside Hotel, Sligo our home and you can find our office here.
I can not find the tour type I need on your site, can you run bespoke tours for my group/event?
Absolutely, we pride ourselves on our Bespoke Tours, please contact us with you request.

I am a School/Club/Business, can you accommodate my needs?
Large group bookings are a speciality for us. We cater for school programs, club outings and business/corporate events, charity challenges and much more. Single or multi day events with overnight accommodation, catering and transportation can also be arranged.
What if the weather is bad?
We are always watching the weather and aim to adjust trips to suit. It is Ireland so rain is always a possibility but if we feel changing a route or a time of a booked trip is needed for safety or to help ensure the best experience we will consult with clients on options. Safety comes first and if we feel a trip has to be cancelled due to a safety concern you will be offered a trip on another date or a refund.
