Glencar Escarpment & the Glencarbury Mines
Hike the Glencar Escarpment and experience incredible views over the picturesque glacial valley of Glencar, home to the famous Glencar Waterfall and the more recently noted Devils Chimney Waterfall.
The Glenniff Cliffs known to us as Annaconna need no introduction as they are one of counties most photographed locations.
This hike will take you from peaceful lowland blanket bog surroundings before making the main climb of the day up a step but safe route that leaves us sneaking up on the back of the famous Gleniff cliffs boasting mind blowing views of the Gleniff below and Benwisken’s summit in the distance, catch a glimpse of Diarmuid & Grainne’s cave and the Cauldron before making our way to Benwisken.
Arriving on Benwisken summit is a thrill to the senses as the land dramatically slopes and falls away in all directions, a true heart raising summit with views over Sligo county, Donegal and the mountains beyond.
We make our way back to the start point under faidlng light guided by head torch and moon light.
