A great tour to visit many of the wonderful tourist attractions in Sligo and Leitrim
- Spectacular Lakeside Views
- Dooney Rock
- The Sleeping Giant
- Creevylea Abbey
- Lake Isle of Inishfree
- Parkes Castle
This route begins near Sligo town and follows a quiet country road along the shores of the picturesque Lough Gill.
One stop that is included in both of these tours is a quick walk up Dooney Rock for a spectacular view of the entire lake and its islands. Other stops include the ‘Sleeping Giants Mountain’ with views of the River Bonet, Killery Mountain and stunning unspoilt natural landscapes. We pass through Dromahair Village where we will see Creevylea Abbey.
O’Rourke’s Castle, the beautiful village itself and on the other side of the village we will stop at lakeside Parkes Castle. Here. we will have an optional castle tour and depending on the weather, an option of a boat tour of the 'Lake of Innisfree' will also be available.
As we head back towards Sligo town on the windy lakeside road we will have another brief stop at Deer Park where we will see a court tomb that dates back to the Neolithic period around 2500-4000 BC.
We might also be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some deer that are in abundance in this area. After this we will head back through the Calry and Hazelwood areas to our finishing point on the outskirts of Sligo Town for a well-deserved rest after a long day of visiting the many tourist attractions of Sligo and Leitrim.
